Zinquin ethyl ester is a lipophilic, zinc-sensitive, cell-permeable fluorescent probe. It can be found in living cells because the ethyl ester is cleaved by cytosolic esterase to give Zinquin that carry a negative charge, preventing its efflux across the plasma membrane.
